Projects

This year I will be implementing a reading and incentive
program that I developed called
Top
Secret Reading Mission.
Basically, I want to expose and encourage
the kids to read different genres. They will be given a
chart at school to keep track of the different genres
that they read. When they have completed the “mission,”
they will receive different prizes. The chapter books
they choose must be at their independent reading level.
They may choose any order they want to accomplish
reading the specified genres. After they complete
reading their books, they are expected to take “AR”
comprehension tests. In addition, they have a monthly
book project that they are to complete at home.
Knowing each child will choose different books at their
own reading levels, they will finish at different
times. Thus, I will need your guidance to help them
gauge their time each night so they finish (at minimum)
one chapter book a month while still having sufficient
time to complete the book project. They will be given
time daily to silently read. Thus, they might want to
keep their nightly reading books in their backpack.
However, the following end of book projects are to be
completed at home. (Reminder: ACS requires 3rd
grade to read a minimum of 20 minutes per night.) To
conclude, each
book project is due by the last school day of each
month.
Thank you for helping support our reading goal to keep
your children reading and foster a love for literature.
Below is a list of the year’s projects so you are aware
of what is expected. Please let me know if you have any
questions.
